Millennium Watch - October 2006

They appear before elections, after major news events, in papers and magazines, they are the 'spin doctors', pushing their own political and monetary agendas/opinions for all they're worth. And here lies the problem, some of these agendas/opinions at best are confusing and misleading to citizens, at worst, should never be allowed to enter the public arena.
The events leading up to the last Australian federal election is a case-in-point. A ship (Tampa) arrives in Australian waters carrying refugees picked up from a doomed vessel on-route. The Liberal government of the time subsequently denies access to the mainland and shunts the refugees to one of our island neighbours for processing. Now, considering that same year the government allowed 107366 (ABS Stats) settlers to migrate to Australia, of which 11530 were of Chinese, Indian, and Vietnamese origin. To me, this action seems harsh, if not downright bigotry?

However, enter the 'spin doctors', professional politicians, social commentators, talk-back radio hosts, and before you can say 'we've taken enought already' and 'usurping Australian jobs', public opinion, especially in traditional Labor heartlands like Western Sydney, is swayed to the government's stance. The result being the Liberal government wins an election it had no right to. Of course, there was a certain campaign bungling by Labor, but the fact remains, the 'spin doctors' made their mark

ICE---Ticket to Hell

October 28th 2006 08:25
The reality reads like the traits for an actor of a horror movie: psychosis; uncontrollable aggression; brain damage; heart damage; disorientation; depression; rotting teeth; festering sores; malnutrition, and if that ain't enough, the increasing inability to experience pleasure.
Obviously this isn't an ordinary illicit drug we're dealing with here. Yes, heroin is bad, so is cocaine, ecstasy, and marijuana---all have life-destroying properties. What makes this new high-potency amphetamine different is a combination of price, availability, and rapidity of addiction. Heroin and cocaine certainly have addictive properties, however, heroin makes first time users violently ill, and cocaine is a niche market drug, high-priced and hard to get unless you're 'in the know'. Ice on the other hand is everywhere, made in backyard labs and priced for the cash strapped teenage market.

As hospitals look at installing new 'lock down' rooms to contain violent users, as gaols struggle to cope with criminal users undergoing violent withdrawls, the escalation of road-rage, work-rage, and rage in general, something more needs to be done. And now

Israel and Armageddon---Troubling Signs

October 24th 2006 09:24
For Israel to exist is "the greatest insult to human dignity". A comment made by Iranian president Ahmadinejad at a pro-Palestinian rally last Friday. He went on to say that "the world knows the US and Britain are enemies of the Iranian nation." And that " Europe must distance itself from Israel at once. That is Iran's ultimatum."
For those that study history will know the enmity between Jews and Moslems has been going on for thousands of years, the 20th Century catalyst being the creation of the Jewish State after WWII. These recent threats however, see the stakes raised to a whole new level. As reported on MW in the 'End Times' article, there are many signs, most highly symbolic, that could be interpreted as the advent of Armageddon, the final battle between the forces of good and evil. However, even the most ardent sceptic cannot deny the accuracy of the following:
The Expeditionary Strike Force led by the US carrier Iwo Jima has recently joined other American naval, air, and marine might piling up opposite Iran's shores/ "Ships of the Western coastlands will oppose him, and he will lose heart. Then he will turn and vent his fury against the holy covenant" (Israel

Global Warming---All is Not as it Seems

October 23rd 2006 11:12
For most of us the term conjures images of ozone depletion, melting ice-caps, rising temperatures, and extreme weather. While this may be true, there is another climate model based on the earth's oceans that forecasts the advent of another ice-age.
Some readers' may already be aware of this disturbing possibility from watching recent documentaries or conducting research of their own. In short, (please forgive my unscientific jargon) the model is based on the gulf-stream, that ocean current conveyor-belt encircling the planet. Melting polar ice is cooling the gulf-stream, in turn cooling the oceans, which of course affects ambient temperatures. Whilst those populations sweltering from summer heat may say 'bring it on', the long-term reality is a disturbing one.
Consider the following facts (taken from www.globalwarming.org

It seems a distinct possibility that Kim Jong Il will detonate another nuclear device in defiance of international will, declaring UN sanctions an act of war.
World leaders' have been known to commit some stupid acts in the past---unprovoked invasion, sex scandals, political suicide---however, this would have to take the cake. Not only does North Korea's despot risk starting a war his country cannot possibly win, but in the eloquent words of my teenage son "he'll get smashed!"
The question remains then: why? By threatening the international community with nuclear attack he will cure the economic woes of North Korea? Pure madness. Kim Jong knows only active participation in the global free-trade market can set his country on the path of economic recovery. No, he would rather bully the world into acquiescence, and as all those of rational mind know, oppression will only bring fear and the threat of retaliation

The End Times?

October 19th 2006 02:55
Watching the world news is a depressing pastime these days. Terrorism, war, global-warming, famine, poverty, crime and drugs---certainly there is no mirth in that list. If we believe the predictions, things are going to get a lot worse. Australia is heading for its worst drought on record, tornados and hurricanes reeking havoc across America like never before, typhoons and floods devastating Asia, earthquakes and volcanic eruptions on the increase. Then there is the ascendancy of social-evil, heinous crimes like mass-murder, rape, child pornography. And the proliferation of drugs such as ice and crack cocaine that turn people into crazed maniacs.
So are we living in the so-called 'End Times'? If we listen to the TV evangelists we are, as told in the Book of Revelations that this is the time before the Rapture and the rise of Antichrist. If we delve into the arcane and much interpreted tomes of Nostradamus, parallels would be found. Some prophesy on the heavens, others on the number of Popes. The list goes on.
Who or what then does one believe? Well millenniumwatch.com thinks it is more a question of analysing than believing. Be vigilant, watch the signs, and communicate, then in the very least, one's decisions will be informed
