Bombs for Brains---a Tale of Nuclear Mania
October 20th 2006 11:55
It seems a distinct possibility that Kim Jong Il will detonate another nuclear device in defiance of international will, declaring UN sanctions an act of war.
World leaders' have been known to commit some stupid acts in the past---unprovoked invasion, sex scandals, political suicide---however, this would have to take the cake. Not only does North Korea's despot risk starting a war his country cannot possibly win, but in the eloquent words of my teenage son "he'll get smashed!"
The question remains then: why? By threatening the international community with nuclear attack he will cure the economic woes of North Korea? Pure madness. Kim Jong knows only active participation in the global free-trade market can set his country on the path of economic recovery. No, he would rather bully the world into acquiescence, and as all those of rational mind know, oppression will only bring fear and the threat of retaliation.
